DeSimone has grown from a small New York structural engineering studio founded in 1969, into an international interdisciplinary practice of over 600 professionals. Our history and the core of our practice is centered in structural engineering, even as we have expanded to offer façade and building envelope consulting, vertical transportation, structural detailing, advisory services, and more.

Because the façade is integral to defining a building’s visual identity and providing an enclosure for the wellbeing of occupants, we focus our systems and materials expertise on all aspects of performance. DeSimone’s in-house structural detailing team provides 3D structural modeling and steel detailing services for construction projects of any size (large scale and highly complex projects being a specialty) requiring structural steel, miscellaneous steel, and plate work. With origins dating back to 1970 (and joining DeSimone in 2023), our structural detailers started on drafting tables, moved to computer aided drafting in 1981, and became the first North America user of Tekla Structures 3D modeling software in 1995.

Our structural detailing team provides accurate, detailed plans that translate design intent with ease of fabrication, erection and installation in mind. Working to both imperial and metric standards, all work complies with AISC and CISC requirements and staff consult closely with clients to ensure that standards are adhered to.

A building’s vertical transportation system is critical for efficient operation and occupant comfort. DeSimone combines expertise in control systems, traffic analysis, and space demands to analyze existing systems and recommend future improvements. Our deep knowledge of structural dynamics and vibrational modeling ensures that high standards for safety, reliability, and efficient ongoing operation will be met.

Our vertical transportation experts are fully integrated into the larger DeSimone team and, therefore, capable of bringing value to every project we undertake within our integrated services model. Interdisciplinary coordination ensures that elevators, escalators, and moving walkways are integral components of the design.
