Calogero Castania
A structural engineer, project manager, mentor, and relationship-builder, Calogero “Jerry” Castania manages a team of engineers in our New York headquarters, collaborating closely with developers, architects, consultants, and contractors to deliver efficient and creative structural solutions from concept design to project completion.
A key member of the DeSimone team since 2006, Jerry has extensive experience in cast-in-place concrete, structural steel, and block and plank for new developments and the renovation and adaptive reuse of buildings across project types.
Currently, Jerry serves as project manager for 175 Third Street, a 1M SF architecturally exposed, concrete residential building near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, the Innovative Urban Village in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, four buildings that will include 839 affordable housing units, and the Willets Point Neighborhood development, comprised of 3 mixed-use buildings with 1,100 units of affordable housing.
Previously completed projects include the award-winning, iconic, 520 W 28th Street residential structure designed by Zaha Hadid, West End Labs, the large-scale adaptive reuse of an old manufacturing facility that created a state-of-the-art research and development hub, and the Coastal Conservation Center, a 5,000 SF fossil-fuel-free facility in Far Rockaway, New York.
