Elevated on piles to withstand storm surge and built with challenging subgrade conditions in mind, the building combines a reinforced concrete and steel superstructure with long cantilevers and architecturally exposed concrete. It houses administrative offices, a flexible classroom, and event space, as well as a public comfort station—all oriented to preserve dune ecology and provide year-round access to the surrounding nature preserve and farm.

The Center embraces a community-first design ethos. A wraparound porch, wide access ramps, and all-gender restrooms ensure inclusivity and comfort for all users. Sustainable features include a closed-loop geothermal system for heating and cooling and dual rooftop solar arrays that generate surplus clean energy for the local grid. Timber cladding and native landscaping reinforce the connection to the coastal environment while supporting long-term climate resilience and environmental stewardship.
