Timber is one of many options for achieving a project’s sustainability goals, but materials selection for this unique product category is nuanced and demands a particularly versatile approach. We have significant industry knowledge of both timber and hybrid timber design, including material attributes and procurement challenges.
Coordinated timber structural procurement considers the entire lifecycle of selected wood products, including harvesting, transport, and processing. Long-lead items necessitate a viable established timber supply chain with early coordination with suppliers to address fabrication and constructability concerns before documentation is issued.
Modern timber systems achieve fire, acoustic, and structural performance comparable to traditional material, even exceeding these standards in many cases.
DeSimone can provide developers, timber manufacturers, and builder clients with a full range of mass timber preconstruction solutions. Our Modeling, detailing and drafting services include all Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam), Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), steel connections and associated hardware. Using digital models, we generate shop drawings for CLT panels, Glulam and steel connectors. Our model can be used to generate material lists (down to the number of screws) for the efficient purchasing of all timber, steel and hardware components. Digital files can be sent to CNC machines for fabrication. No matter the project stage or specification needs, we are equipped to add value to mass timber projects.
