One Thousand Museum

Completed in 2019, One Thousand Museum is a 62-story luxury residential tower that brings Zaha Hadid’s signature curvilinear architectural style to Miami’s skyline. The iconic tower contains 84 residences, ranging from half-floor units to a full-floor penthouse with private helipad access.

To achieve column-free interiors and unobstructed ocean views, DeSimone devised a structural system anchored by a reinforced concrete core and a sweeping exoskeleton made from glass fiber–reinforced concrete (GFRC). The exoskeleton handles both gravity and hurricane-level lateral loads, enabling up to 45-foot clear spans with only two interior columns. Its form also supports 35-foot balcony cantilevers via sculptural brackets, reducing slab thickness from 20 inches to just 11 inches, thereby maximizing floor-to-ceiling heights.

Beneath the tower, we designed a deep mat foundation supported by 227 auger-cast piles—each 30 inches in diameter and extending over 165 feet deep—to accommodate high gravity loads and protect adjacent properties with only inches to spare.

Prefabricated GFRC panels were shipped from Dubai and integrated directly into the permanent formwork, streamlining construction while preserving the building’s complex geometry. The design and integration of these durable, efficient cladding materials reflects our conscientious approach to ensure long-term performance for this iconic building.
