Bankside at Colliers Yard
Bankside at Colliers Yard is a residential development forming part of the Colliers Yard masterplan—an urban regeneration project in the Greengate district of Salford, England.
Standing at 43 stories, the main tower rises from a two-story, brick-clad podium atop two basement levels. Bankside meets modernity head-on with amenities such as podcast and content creation rooms, coworking spaces, and other shared amenities. Cortland and Parkside are the scheme’s sister towers.

Our structural engineering team designed a tower structure supported by a 2.25-meter-deep raft foundation— with one side instead supported by the piled wall and capping beam that forms the two-story basement. This introduced varying stiffness and potential differential settlements, which were carefully balanced through precision engineering to ensure long-term structural integrity.
To reduce the overall mass, we designed the structure so that the thickness of the core walls gradually decreases as the tower rises. This strategic lightening of the structure improves dynamic performance, reducing lateral acceleration to mitigate motion-related disturbances for occupants.
The building's lower levels feature a sophisticated, three-layer masonry design that required careful structural design and analysis, for which we implemented three distinct brickwork support systems tailored to optimize building performance and ease of construction.
Our design of the structure also involved the application of an inverted tertiary support system to the piers on level 1—showcasing our ability to develop effective and unconventional solutions for intricate geometries. To augment this support system, we included lintels, movement joints, and wind posts to ensure the overall stability and long-term durability of the masonry envelope against various loads and environmental factors.
