Stephen V. DeSimone

An award-winning, visionary leader and engineer, Stephen DeSimone has helmed DeSimone Consulting Engineering since 2016, overseeing the completion of many of the world’s most iconic, challenging, and tallest structures—pushing the boundaries of engineering to realize our clients’ most ambitious design and development visions.

Embracing a nuanced and highly strategic approach to leadership, Stephen has focused on preserving the company’s defining core values—outstanding engineering, innovation, and exceptional service—while stewarding the firm through an extended period of successful growth and thoughtful evolution. His focus on continually optimizing the firm to meet our clients’ needs through trusted, responsive service has involved a curated expansion of specialized and expert services to better serve our clients as design approaches and technologies advance.

In recent years, to complement our core structural engineering services, Stephen has ushered in such services as façade and building envelope consulting, structural detailing, vertical transportation, and forensics, as well as wind engineering and vibrational analysis, seismic engineering, resiliency design, fabrication-ready modeling, and legal advisory construction consulting services like expert witness services.

Under Stephen’s guidance, DeSimone Consulting Engineering has fortified its reputation for bringing creativity, dedication, and collaborative energy to every project across multiple sectors globally. These range from multifamily residential, hospitality, and gaming projects to education, life science and research, data centers, healthcare, and aviation and transportation, and more. 

DeSimone’s projects have been recognized with industry accolades and awards. Recent projects under his supervision include the award-winning, sustainable, office-to-residential conversion of the historic 1.1M SF One Wall Street, the reimagining and adaptive reuse of the 1.1M SF Terminal Warehouse into a Class A office and retail center, both in Manhattan, and the 492,678 SF, MSC Miami Cruise Terminal in Florida—the largest in the world.

Additional projects include the transformation of One Time Square into a cultural destination and immersive brand experience, the skyline-redefining Olympia DUMBO and Alcove residential towers in Brooklyn and Nashville, Winthrop Center in Boston—which features the world’s largest office Passive House—and Sendero Verde, the world’s largest affordable residential Passive House. He has overseen the successful completion of scores of world-class hotels and casinos for Hard Rock International, Mandarin Oriental International, The Walt Disney Company, and the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, among many others.
