830 Brickell

Rising 57 stories above downtown Miami, 830 Brickell sets a new standard for Class A+ office towers. Anchoring the city’s financial district, the glass skyscraper features rooftop hospitality venues and ground-floor retail atop an eight-story podium wrapped in a kinetic aluminum façade that moves with wind and light.

As structural engineer and building maintenance consultant, we turned a bold architectural vision into reality, addressing challenges such as an eccentric shear wall core, expansive cantilevers, two transfer levels, and the demands of a hurricane-zone location.

The tower’s reinforced concrete structure combines cast-in-place columns, post-tensioned flat plate slabs, concrete shear walls, and outrigger trusses strategically placed at mid-height and roof levels for lateral stability. Custom solutions—including walking columns, transfer trusses, composite outrigger trusses, and a dramatic steel space truss crowning the roof—ensure both performance and architectural impact.

Using high-strength concrete up to 14,000 PSI, the design maximizes floor-to-ceiling heights while minimizing structural depth. Engineered for durability and resilience, 830 Brickell meets the stringent storm and flood standards of Miami’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone, delivering a flexible, energy-efficient workplace while making a striking architectural statement in the heart of the city.
