DeSimone’s engineering team played a key role in making transformative improvements to Terminal Three to promote direct flights from Europe and Asia by expanding the terminal’s capacity by increasing the number of gates from seven to 14 in addition to physical upgrades that helped adapt the structure to accommodate wide-body aircrafts typically used for longer flights.
Our team was brought on to design the structure for a new, 25,000 SF corridor that directs passengers through the terminal as they deplane from the new gates. With the new walkway, Terminal One’s D-Gate now connects directly to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection passenger arrival facility at Terminal Three’s Main Gate, running below the tarmac at a width of 28 feet for some 800 feet. This connection also includes a two-story vestibule at the D-Gate transition with stairs, elevators and escalators, and two-jet bridge foundation.
