Eden Roc Miami Beach

Historically known as the “Grande Dame” of Miami Beach hotels, the original Eden Roc Resort, designed in 1955 by visionary architect Morris Lapidus, underwent a $250M revitalization and expansion project that transformed the resort into the Eden Roc Miami Beach—fusing the resort’s mid-century, Miami Modern-style with contemporary design.

With a redesign of the original Resort Tower and the addition of a new, 21-story Ocean Tower, Eden Roc doubled in size, adding 46,000 SF of indoor meeting space, over 80 guest rooms, new signature amenities, and more.

The client engaged DeSimone to design the structure for the new Ocean Tower on the south side of the property and modify parts of the original Resort Tower structure. Managing and integrating the loads of the new high-rise structure with the existing lower-rise structure required advanced structural analysis and careful planning and design to ensure uniform load paths and prevent differential settlement or other structural distress.

Shallow foundations would have been inadequate given the site’s soil conditions, so we designed a specialized foundation system with deep piles to ensure stability and manage settlement.

Structural modifications to the original building involved the existing pool deck and upper portions of the building to add parking, a ballroom, and a banquet kitchen.
