Vertical Transportation Expert Steve Edgett Joins DeSimone

Highly esteemed industry veteran has shaped vertical transportation systems for some of the world’s most complex, technically demanding buildings

NEW YORK, Mar. 12, 2026 — DeSimone Consulting Engineering has announced that Steve Edgett has joined the firm as Senior Technical Advisor, strengthening and expanding its market-leading Vertical Transportation (VT) practice.

Recognized as one of the nation’s foremost VT experts, Edgett’s appointment reflects DeSimone’s continued investment in growing its integrated engineering capabilities across major U.S. markets, extending from structural engineering to façade and building envelope consulting, structural detailing, and fabrication-ready modeling. The DeSimone VT practice provides a full complement of services, from due diligence and concept development through construction and installation for new construction, modernizations, and ongoing maintenance.

“Bringing Steve Edgett to DeSimone is a meaningful step forward for our firm and our clients,” said Stephen DeSimone, CEO and Chairman of DeSimone Consulting Engineering. “He brings extraordinary depth of experience and a genuine passion for vertical transportation that further strengthens our service offering. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

Edgett joins DeSimone after decades as a leader and cofounder of Edgett Williams Consulting Group (EWCG), widely regarded as one of the industry’s premier vertical transportation consultancies. Throughout his career, he has advised on supertall towers, global corporate headquarters, landmark mixed-use developments, major technology campuses, and high-end retail properties. His portfolio includes Apple Park, Google's Bay View Campus, Shanghai Tower, and the award-winning JPMorgan Chase Headquarters at 270 Park Avenue—a 2.6 million-square-foot, full-city block, 1388-foot supertall designed as a high-capacity vertical office building with some 90 elevators and escalators.

“What truly excites me about joining DeSimone is the opportunity to work as part of a fully integrated team,” said Edgett. “Elevators are only one piece of a much larger system. A building functions best when structure, façade, infrastructure, and vertical transportation are aligned. DeSimone is building a truly differentiated Vertical Transportation practice, and I am delighted to join the team as Senior Technical Advisor.”

DeSimone’s VT team, led by Principal Kelly Houlihan, QEI, combines expertise in control systems, traffic analysis, and space demands to analyze existing systems and recommend future improvements, applying structural dynamics and vibrational modeling to meet the highest standards for safety, reliability, and efficient operations.

The team’s interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that elevators, escalators, and moving walkways integrate effectively with each building’s design, supporting the full lifecycle from the integration of design with the structural engineering team through the transition from construction, commissioning, and long-term operation.
