Flushing Commons Phase II Breaks Ground

DeSimone joined project teams and crews in celebrating the official start of construction for Phase II of Flushing Commons, a highly anticipated mixed-use development in Queens, New York.

Adding to the Phase I structures completed in 2017, Phase II will deliver a 1.3-acre public plaza with a multi-tier amphitheater, as well as two mixed-use towers—The Liria and The Elm—containing a 63,000 SF YMCA, 132,000 SF of retail, 123,000 SF of office space, and 156 residential units.

DeSimone has designed the structures for both phases, reinvigorating a site that was formerly occupied by a parking lot and addressing a need for vibrant new open space in the area. To ensure proper support for the concrete development's tightly packed Phase II program, our engineers tackled complex load paths, changing floor plates, and the integration of residential, office, retail, and community spaces.

Phase II is scheduled for completion in 2029.
