In the Media: Terminal Warehouse wins ENR

Terminal Warehouse wins ENR - NY Regional Best Project

We’re honored to add an Engineering News-Record-NY Regional Best Project Award in the Renovation/Restoration category to the growing list of awards earned for the redevelopment of the historic Terminal Warehouse!

ENR evaluated projects on the quality of design and construction, contribution to the community, safety, and ability to overcome challenges—the last of which hits home for the DeSimone structural engineering team, who helped transform Terminal Warehouse from an outdated, nearly forgotten, industrial building into a vibrant, light-filled, office, retail, dining, and public event space.

Over 7+ years, our team dedicated extraordinary time, expertise, and more than a little heart and soul to this project and our clients—including completing structural design remotely through the worst of the pandemic, maintaining a constant (masked) on-site presence during early construction, and many late-night discussions with contractors and the project team.

Faced with a challenging mix of existing timber, steel, and concrete materials across four distinct structures wrapped in a landmarked facade, our team brought engineering innovation and a commitment to sustainability to revitalizing and expanding Terminal Warehouse in a way that honors its place in NYC’s past—and future.

Congratulations to our clients and project team partners for the exceptional effort that led to this well-deserved recognition L&L Holding Company, Columbia Property Trust, Hill Capital Partners, COOKFOX Architects, Normandy Real Estate Partners, Gensler, Derive Engineering, Langan Engineering, New Line Structures, and Platform Solutions, and the key members of the DeSimone team: managing principal Mark Plechaty, PE, associate principal Rodolpho Medina, PE, BIM supervisor Eric Reis, and project engineer Thomas DeSimone.
