Press Release: Kermin Chok Joins DeSimone Chicago

Digital Problem-Solver Kermin Chok Joins DeSimone Consulting Engineering as Associate Principal

Noted leader in use of advanced computational design tools will further bolster company’s multi-dimensional platform of service offerings

NEW YORK, NY, Feb. 26, 2025 ― Global engineering services leader DeSimone Consulting Engineering announced that structural engineer and computational design expert, Kermin Chok, SE, has joined the firm as an Associate Principal in their Chicago office.

An accomplished structural engineer operating at the intersection of technology, cloud computing, and structural engineering, Chok has more than two decades of experience leading large-scale, analytically and geometrically complex projects. He will fill a critical role further optimizing DeSimone’s ability to deliver cost-effective, structurally innovative projects for their clients

Highly regarded in the industry for his design creativity and technical problem-solving, Kermin leverages advanced digital tools to significantly accelerate the delivery of even the most complex projects.

Stephen DeSimone, Chairman and CEO of DeSimone Consulting Engineering, remarked, “Kermin’s computational design, seismic design, and advanced structural engineering expertise bolsters our ability to devise custom solutions. Whether deploying a cloud-based parametric platform to enhance accuracy and accelerate schedules, or conceiving solutions for complex building geometries, Kermin enhances our integrated, specialized services model, enabling DeSimone to push the limits of engineering in service of each client’s vision.”

His contributions to structurally innovative projects around the world include the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai—the world’s tallest structure—Chicago’s Trump Tower, the Central Market Development in Abu Dhabi, and Four Seasons Place Kuala Lumpur. His involvement in long span and geometrically complex work includes the Singapore Sportshub, Allegiant Stadium, and a large signature museum project in Abu Dhabi.

Chok joined DeSimone from Arup, where he served as Associate Principal. Prior to that, he was a technical director at Meinhardt after beginning his career as a structural engineer at SOM. He has led structural engineering and computational design teams with an emphasis on performance-based seismic design, and is recognized for leading architecturally expressive projects with high geometric and structural complexity.

“I am excited to join the DeSimone team as the company continues to grow and build their reputation as industry leaders with a uniquely responsive offering of services,” Chok said. “My ability to contribute advanced computational design services in tandem with structural design expertise means we can provide our clients with an even higher level of accuracy in our structural design solutions, expedite schedules, and access new strategies to optimize the performance of every structure.”

Chok received his Master’s in Civil Engineering from MIT after earning his BS in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University.
