DeSimone Honored for Structural Innovation at 2025 ACEC NY Engineering Excellence Awards

DeSimone was honored with two awards at the 2025 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, celebrating the firm’s continued commitment to innovative, sustainable, and resilient design. Managing Principal Mukesh Parikh and Principal Jarret Johnson accepted the Diamond Award for Millennium Partners’ Winthrop Center in Boston, a 691-foot-tall tower now recognized as the tallest building in the city’s Financial District. The Handel-designed project also includes the largest Passive House office space in the world. To achieve its striking design, DeSimone engineered a structural solution for “The Connector,” a dramatic civic space that spans three stories and cuts through the block. A steel-framed deck supported by concrete mega-columns was designed to support the full weight of the tower above the open area.

In addition to the Diamond Award, DeSimone received a Gold Award for the Aston Martin Residences in Miami. The luxury tower, developed by G&G Business Developments and designed by BMA Studio and Revuelta Architecture International, features a curved, sail-inspired form with extensive cantilevers and no two floors exactly alike. DeSimone addressed these engineering challenges with a structural system composed of three interconnected cores and large, sloped concrete columns, enabling the building to handle complex load transfers while maintaining overall stiffness and wind resistance.
