In honor of Earth Day 2026, we’re sharing our ongoing commitment to sustainability, and a few of our recent projects that are especially noteworthy for their sustainable impact.
Our Sustainable Design Committee, led by Principal Jarret Johnson, PE, has reaffirmed our commitment to meet the Structural Engineering 2050 goal of net-zero carbon emissions by updating our 2050 Embodied Carbon Action Plan.
We’re committed to reducing the amount of concrete used in structures—including through innovative applications like voided concrete slab systems and the use of alternative materials such as sustainably sourced Mass Timber where possible.
DeSimone serves as trusted partner in the development of scores of LEED-certified projects, including several that have achieved LEED Platinum Certification, such as Boston’s Winthrop Center, the largest commercial Passive House in the world, and the adaptive reuse of the historic Terminal Warehouse in New York.
Two more DeSimone projects are working to be certified LEED Platinum—420 Carroll, a resilient, dual-tower residential structure on Brooklyn’s Gowanus canal, and 1401 Brickell by Santander, a 50-story office tower with a unique, diagrid exoskeleton that just broke ground in Miami.
