505 Summit in Journal Square has officially opened to the public! Built right next to the Journal Square PATH station, the 54-story luxury residential tower boasts 605 units, 3,200 SF of retail space, and high-end amenities, as well as a landscaped public plaza.
DeSimone’s structural engineers designed the cast-in-place concrete superstructure—one of the tallest in the area—with special transfer conditions at multiple levels to accommodate the setbacks. The thin tower rises from a broad, five-story podium, with a concrete core that acts as the structure’s backbone, resisting sway and adding stiffness.
Our façade and building envelope consultants developed a unitized glazed aluminum curtain wall system, allowing large sections of the façade to be fabricated elsewhere and installed. Large windows with alternating black and beige paneling draw the eye upward, accentuating the structure’s slender profile.
Congratulations to architect HLW International, and developer Panepinto Properties, as well as DeSimone Managing Principal Mark Plechaty, PE, and Associate Principal Pratik Shah, PE, of our structural engineering team, and Principal Rok Lee, AIA, and Senior Associate Daniel Chung, RA, of our façade and building envelope team.
