245 W 55th Street Tops Out in Manhattan

245 West 55th Street in Manhattan, the conversion of a 1920s structure into apartments, has officially reached its new height.

An eight-story vertical addition—a signature feature of the conversion—rises from the existing parapet and will be clad in brick, metal, and industrial-style windows. The expansion increases the building's height to 20 stories and introduces a series of stepped setbacks and outdoor terraces that complement the original structure while creating a distinctive new presence.

Owned by the Academy Award-winning DuArt motion picture lab and film processing studio for nearly a century, the 70,000 SF structure will be home to 42 condominiums and include space for future commercial tenants. The project is targeting a 2027 opening.

Extra precautions are in place in accordance with the Brownfield Cleanup Program due to the structure’s former film processing operations.
